Traffic Control is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of over 165 traffic signals, 8,300+ street lights, and all roadway striping, signage, delineators, raised pavement markers, and legends on the City’s public rights of way, including the Coastal Rail Trail and the San Luis Rey Bike Path. Traffic signal and street light maintenance include preventative maintenance, emergency response, new construction inspection, minor improvements, and service request responses.

Citywide LED Light Retrofit Project

Following the LED conversion in 2015, the City of Oceanside now uses a computer system called "LightGrid" to electronically monitor street lights that are in need of repair. We are collaborating with SDG&E and GE-Current to have the photocell inside each street light individually metered to show actual power usage, allowing us to get real time usage rates instead of using the flat rate billing system. This cost savings program is currently in the testing phase and is expected to go live by the end of the fiscal year.

To report an issue with traffic signals, street lights, or missing/damaged signs, call (760) 435-4500 or email CustomerCare@ci.oceanside.ca.us. Please provide an address when available and as much detail as possible to assist our staff with locating the exact problem. It is also helpful to provide your contact information for follow-up questions. Our goal is to respond to repairs within 5 (five) working days.
