Landfill, Recyclables and Food Scraps Containers

In accordance with California state laws, Oceanside’s 2020 Zero Waste Plan and Chapter 13 of the City Code, businesses are required to have adequate landfill, recyclables and food scraps containers for both customers and employees. Containers must be located both in the front and back of the establishment.

These containers are provided by WM and posters can be downloaded here. Establishments should assure they are clearly labeled and offer signs, so customers and staff know what goes into each to implement best practices.

Food scraps and recyclable bins must use only clear plastic liners, if needed. Use black liners for landfill bins.

Cleaning Requirements

Indoor/outdoor eating areas must be kept clean. All waste containers are required to be maintained and the areas frequently sanitized and cleaned using contained or dry methods, such as sweeping or using absorbent materials like rags or paper towels to dispose of grease spills.

NO wash water is allowed to run off into any storm drain. When spills happen, employees must wipe up as much as possible before mopping to prevent fats, oils and grease (FOG) from entering our sewer system and City storm drains.
