Using water wisely is the best way to have more of this precious resource available for the hot, dry times that will always come.  The City of Oceanside is currently in a Level 1 Drought Watch Condition.  We want the Oceanside community to become as efficient as possible on a daily basis.  You can start with simple steps, like washing full loads of laundry and clothes, turning off the water while you brush your teeth, and avoiding unnecessary toilet flushing.

Fix leaks inside and out as soon as possible.  Even small ones can add up!  You can get direct notices of leaks at your property – including the ones you can’t see – by signing up at oceanside.watersmart.com.   Learn more about the smart meters at your property and how they can help you manage your water use.

Consider transforming your landscape, the place where most water is used.  The City offers free classes and design help, along with rebates on  replacing turf with low water use plants,  irrigation systems components, and other water-saving devices.

Water Use Efficiency Measures in Effect at all times:

Irrigation - Required

  • Adjust sprinklers to prevent runoff or overspray.
  • Repair broken sprinkler nozzles and irrigation leaks.

Irrigation - Strongly Encouraged

  • Water landscapes between the hours of 6:00 pm and 10:00 am.
  • Use a hand-held hose with positive shut-off nozzle to water landscapes with no irrigation system.
  • Do not irrigate for at least 48 hours before or after rain

Washing - Required

  • Use a broom instead of a hose to clean paved surfaces.
  • Wash vehicles using a bucket and hand-held hose equipped with positive shut-off nozzle. Do not allow any water to enter storm drains.  A professional car wash is preferred.

Leaks - Strongly Encouraged

  • Repair all indoor and outdoor leaks within five (5) days of notification.

Fountains - Required

  • Stop operation of ornamental fountains unless re-circulated water is used.

Hotels and Restaurants - Required

  • Restaurants and other food service establishments may serve water only upon request.
  • Hotels must provide guests the option of not having towels and linens laundered daily.
