Overview

The Watershed Protection Program educates the public about pollution prevention in our watershed. We work to keep our local rivers, creeks, lagoons, and ocean free of pollution and safe for all to enjoy!

Only Rain in the Storm Drain

Unlike sewer water from your home, stormwater and urban runoff are not treated before entering the storm drain system. If we all work together, we can reduce a significant amount of pollution from reaching our local waterbodies.

Ten Tips to Prevent Water Pollution

  1. Don't litter. Pick up trash on the ground and properly dispose in the organics, recycling or landfill bins.

  2. Keep waste bins closed.

  3. Pick up after your pet - it's your doody!

  4. Prevent soil erosion by stabilizing exposed soil – plant native vegetation or cover with mulch!

  5. Repair leaking vehicles and recycle used motor oil at your local auto supply.

  6. Don't apply fertilizer and pesticides before it rains.

  7. Store hazardous materials in a covered and contained area.

  8. Prevent irrigation runoff – do not allow irrigation water to overspray onto paved areas.

  9. When washing vehicles, divert water to landscaping or take your vehicle to a commercial carwash that recycles water.

  10. Use dry methods to clean up such as sweeping debris or using an absorbent material to remove a spill.

Remember irrigation and wash water pollute our downstream waterways and are not allowed to enter a storm drain per City Ordinance and State law.
