Services for Residents
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and/or universal waste includes items that are toxic, corrosive or reactive, and cannot be disposed in any residential cart or commercial bin.
Oceanside residents can drop off their household hazardous waste twice a month by appointment only on Saturdays at Waste Management’s HHW Facility located at 2880 Industry Street by calling WM at (760) 439-2824. Proof of residency is required.
HHW appointments are needed to dispose of the following items: fluorescent light tubes, chemicals (pool and others), household cleaners, pesticides, majority of over-the-counter and prescription medications (excluding controlled substances), paint, sharps waste (syringes or lancets) properly packaged for safe disposal, (used) motor oil, filters and antifreeze.
Household Hazardous Waste Home Collection
Seniors 62 years of age or older, or 55 years old living in a senior housing development and disabled customers with physical limitations who are not able to drive or have a person living in their household drive to the HHW facility can make a reservation for free home collection of HHW. This free collection service is conducted one time per month on a first-come-first-serve basis. An appointment is required. If appointments for any given month reaches capacity, qualified residents may schedule collection for the next date available.
Items such as garden chemicals, electronics (televisions, computers), automotive material (used oil, antifreeze), paint, sharps (needles, lancets), fluorescent tubes and household cleaners.
