Grand Re-Opening of Bookmobile January 6

The Oceanside Public Library is pleased to announce the kick-off of the Seguimos Adelante/Moving Forward Project with a grand re-opening celebration of the Adelante Bookmobile on January 6, 2014, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the Joe Balderrama Recreation Center, located at 709 San Diego Street in Oceanside. There will be live music, food and fun for the entire family, and the public is invited to tour the vehicle. Special remarks will be made at 4:00 p.m.

The 32-foot vehicle will provide English and Spanish language books for all ages, literacy and ESL material, DVDs, public computers with internet access, and much more to three locations a week in Oceanside. In addition, many programs on topics such as health, finance, parenting, and youth activities are planned for each location. The goal of the Seguimos Adelante/Moving Forward Project is to help people access services; strengthen families; enhance early childhood education and literacy; and empower citizens to make informed choices.

The Adelante Bookmobile will make stops in selected neighborhoods Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Mondays - Joe Balderrama Recreation Center
709 San Diego Street

1st & 3rd Wednesdays -  Crown Heights Resource Center

Thursdays -  Libby Lake Community Center

The Adelante Bookmobile first began operation in Oceanside in 2003, but was removed from service in 2009 in order to meet budget reduction requirements. At the time it was taken off the road, visits to the Adelante Bookmobile and material check-outs were at an all-time high. The Library has always been eager to bring the Adelante Bookmobile back into service. As part of the Library’s 2012 Strategic Planning Process, Library and City Staff and members of the community worked together to achieve a solution, and the Seguimos Adelante/Moving Forward Project was launched. A team of talented and passionate Library staff has been assembled that is focused and dedicated to making certain the Adelante Bookmobile brings the best possible resources available to those neighborhoods it serves.
