El Corazon



El Corazon Field Development - The City of Oceanside has moved one step closer to opening the multi-use athletic fields at El Corazon!  El Corazon is a 450-acre development located in the center of the City and is designed to eventually include community facilities, park areas, and gathering places for music, cultural, and social events.  READ MORE

Green Oceanside -  Oceanside is the first city in San Diego County to have adopted a Zero Waste Plan.  The plan outlines a goal of 75% diversion/recycling rate by 2020, and ultimately a 90% diversion/recycling rate.  In only one year, Oceanside's diversion rate of recyclable materials from landfill has risen to 72%!  Together, we can reach our Zero Waste goal if we all do our part.  READ MORE on how to help.

Arts and Culture - Did you know that Oceanside is an Arts & Culture destination? From fine art galleries to the surf museum to the live theatre, Oceanside boasts a rich and burgeoning cultural atmosphere.  History buffs should check out the colorful history of the Mission San Luis Rey Francia.  Water lovers won't want to miss the cultural roots of surfing at the California Surf Museum.  Spend a night out at an electrifying live performance!  READ MORE

The Coastal Rail Trail envisions a connected 44-mile trail from Oceanside to San Diego.  Efforts to create the trail involve developing disconnected links, like the ones in Oceanside, Carlsbad, Solana Beach, and San Diego.  Portions of the trail are already constructed along Broadway and Myers Street, east and west of the railroad rights-of-way, near Cassidy Street.  A small segment north of Wisconsin Boulevard opened last year, with a second phase of that project, from Wisconsin to Oceanside Boulevard, expected to be completed soon.  READ MORE  The project in Oceanside helps fulfill the vision laid out in the City of Oceanside Bicycle Master Plan and the San Diego Regional Bicycle Plan.

Tourism - As Visit Oceanside wraps up its fiscal year, the Oceanside tourism industry has much to celebrate.  Tourism is a viable economic engine for the Oceanside community.  As part of this historic year, we not only celebrated the 125 anniversary of our beautiful City, we experienced a record high in hotel tax and Visit Oceanside (VO) influenced over $61 million in visitor spending, according to an independent research firm.  READ MORE

Beach Restrooms -Oceanside beach-goers can soon look forward to shiny new restrooms for residents and visitors alike.   In June, the City Council approved funding for upgrading the facilities.  Restrooms at Breakwater Way, Sportfisher Drive, and Tyson Street will be rebuilt.  The restrooms residing on the pier and at Wisconsin Street will be renovated.  In addition, a plan is being developed to address the facilities adjacent to the Junior Seau Pier Amphitheater.  READ MORE





eTRAKit System -  In a continuing effort to improve customer service and streamline the permitting process, the new eTRAKit online program provides access to permits, projects, and cases for information regarding status of inspections and reviews. Registered users also have the ability to pay certain fees online via credit card payments and schedule inspections. Properly licensed contractors may also apply for permits ONLINE.

Free San Diego County Emergency App - Disaster preparedness starts with you!  Your family may not be together when disaster strikes, so it is important to plan in advance:   how you will contact one another;  how you will get back together; and what you will do in different disaster situations.  The free San Diego County Emergency App contains disaster preparedness information, interactive checklists to help you to create your emergency plan and  build an emergency supplies kit.  If an emergency occurs, you and your family stay informed with emergency updates, interactive emergency maps, and shelter locations. Pro Kids Oceanside Golf Program - Golf is the hook, better grades are the outcome.  Pro Kids opened a beautiful clubhouse learning center at 821 Douglas Drive right next to the golf course. Enrolled students must first complete homework with help from center staff before they can play the course.  The program is open to children ages 7-17 and is free for qualifying families.  This program is a fantastic opportunity for Oceanside students to accompish great things academically and on the green.  For more information, or to enroll your child, call (760) 547-8566.  READ MORE

Buena Vista Creek & Beach Clean Up - September 21 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.  Join in on California Coastal Cleanup Day,a statewide coastal and inland waterway cleanup held throughout California each year, part of the largest such cleanup in the country.  Cleanup sites are located along Buena Vista Creek and on Oceanside beaches.  Come together on California Coastal Clean Up Day ... we need you!  And remember, only rain in the storm drain! CLEAN UP SITES

Congrats, Team Oceanside!  A group from the Oceanside Police Department competed in the Race Across America, a cycling adventure which took them from the Pier to Annapolis, Maryland in a week, all on pedal power!  The group raced to raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  Teamwork and determination pushed this group through 12 states as they pedaled 3,000 miles.  READ MORE

OPD Explorers Program



Join the Police Explorers Program - If you know a youth interested in law enforcement, a great opportunity awaits!  Young men and women, ages 14-21 are encouraged to explore a career in law enforcement through the Oceanside Police Department's Explorers Program.  Explorers have direct interaction with working field officers, supervisors, and support staff, to expand their interest in the law enforcement profession as a career.  The program emphasizes career opportunities, life skills, and leadership.  READ MORE





Official City Trees - Thank you to all who participated in an online vote to select Official City Trees—one native/naturalized and one ornamental species. The votes have been tallied and the winners are the Coast Live Oak, and the Gold Medallion Tree.  The City of Oceanside has been officially designated by the Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City since 2008, and is committed to creating a healthier community through education and awareness of our healthy and vibrant urban forest.  A ceremony and tree planting will be held at a future date...stay tuned!
