Holiday Happenings in Oceanside:

Holiday Tree Lighting - December 5 from 6:00 - 6:30 p.m. at the Regal Cinema Plaza, located at 401 Mission Avenue.  Join in the fun after the tree lighting for picture opportunities with Santa, holiday arts and crafts and milk and cookies!  Don’t forget to bring your holiday shopping list and buy local...the Mainstreet Sunset Market will be open for all of your holiday needs.

3rd Annual Christmas Concert at Old Mission San Luis Rey - December 6 from 7-8:30 p.m.  

To the Pointe Ballet presents The Nutcracker - December 7 at the STAR Theatre at 3:00 and 6:00 p.m.

Senior Citizens Holiday Dance - December 8 from 2-5:30 p.m. at the El Corazon Senior Center.   

Parade of Lights - December 14 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. with parade beginning at 7:00 at the Oceanside Harbor.  Come see various boats decked out for the holidays!

Friends of the Library Holiday Home Tour - December 15 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.    FLYER   TICKETS

Free Holiday Sing-Along Ukulele Concert - December 21 at 2:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Library Community Room.

New City Manager Steve Jepsen - The Oceanside City Council has appointed Steve Jepsen as Oceanside City Manager.  Mr. Jepsen replaces Peter Weiss, who gave his resignation in August.  Jepsen left his position as the City Manager of Yuba City,  where he served since leaving Oceanside in 2006.  Prior to his Yuba City post, Jepsen was Oceanside’s City Manager from 2000 – 2006.  Jepsen was appointed Deputy City Manager in 1999, after serving as Oceanside Community Services Director since 1994.  Prior to working for the City of Oceanside, Jepsen served as the Assistant City Manager of Concord, California, where he also served as Interim Redevelopment Director and Director of Community Development and Public Works.  Jepsen is a native of Omaha, Nebraska and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and two Masters degrees in both Civil Engineering and Urban Planning.   Please welcome Mr. Jepsen back to Oceanside!

El Corazon Groundbreaking -The City of Oceanside, in partnership with Sudberry Properties, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Oceanside So Cal Sports Complex at El Corazon on November 13.  The Sports Complex will consist of 22 multi-use athletic fields and related services. El Corazon is a 465-acre development located in the center of the City at Rancho del Oro Dr. and Oceanside Blvd. The El Corazon Specific Plan identifies a number of amenities to be built over the next several years.  The implementation of the multi-use athletic fields is a first step in this effort. Sudberry Properties, the developer for El Corazon, was selected by the Oceanside City Council.  Sudberry also has a 25 year lease on 97 acres at El Corazon, and will build the commercial component that will include retail shops, hotels, office space and residential units.   More information on El Corazon

Oceanside Parks and Recreation News                            

Looking for a year-end tax write-off?  The Friends of Oceanside Parks is a 501c3 non-profit organization founded in 2010 to raise money for recreation programs, special events, concerts in the park, and youth scholarships for recreation classes.   This past summer they helped sponsor nearly 19 events! The Friends gladly accept donations no matter what size.   Please make donations payable to the Friends of Oceanside Parks, 300 North Coast Highway, Oceanside, CA  92010. Non-profit Tax ID # 02-0714450.

Got wheels?  Beach Wheelchairs Available -  The Oceanside Fire Department’s Lifeguard Division offers the free use of beach wheelchairs everyday of the year.  The chairs are designed with large balloon tires to allow easy access across the sand and down to the water.  Beach wheelchairs are available at the Oceanside Lifeguard Headquarters under the Oceanside Pier.  They may also be reached by phone at 760-435-4018. The Lifeguard Division is open from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. during winter hours, and from 8:00 a.m.- 8:00 p.m. during summer months.







Oceanside's KOCT Wins 3 WAVE AwardsThe annual Western Access Video Excellence awards (WAVE) showcase the best work of community television producers from the western states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada and New Mexico.  This year there were over 350 entries.   KOCT is pleased to have won a 3 WAVE awards!  READ MORE

LIFE: A Lifelong Learning Group at MiraCosta College in Oceanside offers lectures and events for seniors in a wide array of topics, from film noir to space exploration, to national security.  There is something for everyone in these valuable learning opportunities.   







Affordable Licensing, Vaccination & Microship Event - December 28 from 10:00 a.m. - noon at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park.   The San Diego Humane Society and Vera Heidolph, DVM, MIM of VetBus will be on site providing Oceanside residents affordable vaccinations and microchips for their pets.  Stop by to renew or purchase a license (late fees will be waived).  MLK Park is located at 4300 Mesa Drive in Oceanside. The Humane Society also has accessible spay and neuter programs for Oceanside residents, including low-cost assistance.  For more information, call 760-757-4357.
