My Oceanside City App -  The City of Oceanside recently unveiled the "My Oceanside City App," a free application which will allow citizens to report issues and request services via their mobile device.  My Oceanside City App also allows you to submit photos as you discover issues like potholes, graffiti or litter, and submit them 24 hours a day.  The issue will be immediately routed to the correct administrator in the appropriate department.  Requests will be responded to quickly and efficiently and you will be notified the instant it is resolved.  The My Oceanside City App can be downloaded free to your smart phone via  iTunes or Android Marketplace. 







Drought Restrictions - New Water Use Rules Now in Effect -Recently, the San Diego County Water Authority declared a Level 2 Drought Alert, calling for mandatory water conservation to keep as much water as possible in storage for 2015.  The mandatory water use rules, now in effect in the City of Oceanside, instruct residents and businesses to prevent water waste and reduce water use by up to 20 percent.  Mandatory Water Use Restrictions

Green Oceanside - Fresh Start on Zero Waste - Oceanside offers year-round beautiful weather and is surrounded by a plethora of natural resources and environmental wonders.  The City of Oceanside strives to protect and enhance them for the enjoyment of residents, businesses and visitors alike.  Start the fall season fresh with tools and guidelines on how to save precious and limited natural resources at home, in the office, and at school.

Economic Development News - Oceanside has a dynamic business climate with new restaurants, retail shops, breweries, and manufacturing businesses moving into the City every day.  The City's Economic Development Department assists businesses with expansion and relocation to Oceanside by offering site searches, business visits, demographic and statistical information, and assistance with permit processing and business license issuance.  Check the link above for the latest hot new eatery news!






New Monthly First Friday Art Walk - Launched August 1, the inaugural First Friday Art Walk was a great success.  The Art Walk involved 18 museums, theatres, shops and galleries that hosted performing and visual art.  The experience will continue each first Friday night of the month, so don't miss it on September 5 from 6-9 p.m!  Participants received a map and started anywhere they liked along the two-block route.  All enjoyed the Yarn Bombing along the route, supplied by crafty volunteers.  Organizers plan to expand the Art Walk further south, involving more artists and businesses as the event grows.

Arts and Culture - The Arts are alive in Oceanside, and there's something for every member of the family!   You won't want to miss the excitement happening at Art After Dark or the much-anticipated Oceanside International Film Festival.  The Brooks Theatre's North County's Got Talent can be an afternoon of delight for the entire family.  See link for details.  Dive in and experience the best of Oceanside's arts and culture scene and make it a night to remember. 








Yarn Bomb O'side - A community art project, Yarn Bomb O'side called all knitters, crocheters, and macramers to submit yarn squares of any size to be included in the mass yarn bombing areas along the first official Arts Walk on Friday, August 1. Over 60 knitters turned out in force, submitting over 200 yarn squares, some mailed from across the U.S!  Click here for a look at the creative, colorful, fuzzy results! 








Expanded Hours Coming Soon at the Newly Renovated Mission Branch Library - The Mission Branch will be expanding its hours beginning in October –adding another hour on Wednesday nights and 5 more hours on Saturday will make the new schedule:  Monday through Wednesday, 10-7; Thursday and Friday, 10-6, Saturday, 12-5; and Sunday 1-5.  Check us out 7 days a week in October!  Library Catalog







Harbor Days - Save the Date!   On September 27-28, the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce will present Oceanside Harbor Days.  The event will feature arts and craft exhibits, great food, and fun activities for the entire family. Two event-filled days of sun, sand, and surf provide an outstanding opportunity for residents and neighbors to experience the new Sandcastle Competition, Entertainment Stage, Arts, food booth areas, Nail 'n' Sail Competition, Military, Public Safety displays, and more.   Video

Oceanside Police Explorers Excel in Competition - The Oceanside Police Department Explorer Program is designed for young men and women to explore all aspects of law enforcement. They have direct interaction with working field officers, supervisors and support staff to expand their interest in the law enforcement profession as a career.  The OPD's Explorer team recently competed against eight other Explorer teams from the region and took home two awards.  Congrats Oceanside Police Explorers!  More info on Explorer Program







November City Council Elections - There are two positions open for election on the Oceanside City Council.  For those interested in running for one of these seats, the filing period for candidates closes August 8, 2014.  Only during this candidate filing period can the official nomination papers be issued and returned to the City Clerk's Office.  Candidates must appear in person in the City Clerk's Office during the Nomination Period to be issued their Nomination Papers.  More information  Register to Vote







Friends of the Library Big Book Sale - Saturday, August 16 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. - Pick up fabulous books for pennies on a wide variety of genres.  

Citizen of the World Discussion & Documentary Series - Working to promote civic participation and reflection by encouraging dialogue and promoting informed decisions about current issues.  The Citizen of the World Discussion and Documentaty Series expands on those goals.  Check link for topics.  More great library events







Beat the Heat at County Cool Zones - With the summer heat upon us, the County  has designated Cool Zones where residents can go during hot weather.  The sites encourage people to share air conditioning during the heat of the day, lowering individual usage and helping to conserve energy for the whole community.  Oceanside Cool Zone Sites:

  • Salvation Army Senior Nutrition Center - 3935 Lake Boulevard








Bulky Large Item Garbage Pick Up -  As part of the City's contract with Waste Management,  residential customers may arrange for the disposal of a limited number of large household items such as appliances, furniture, mattresses, water heaters, rolled carpet, and refrigerators. To schedule a large item pick up, contact Waste Management at 760-439-2824 at least 24 hours before your regularly scheduled trash day. Waste Management will  remove the items placed at the curb or alley on your next regularly scheduled trash pick-up day.  Full List of Accepted Items  Info. on Hazardous and E-Waste







North County Health & Wellness Fair - August 14 from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.  The Chamber of Commerce hosts the 9th Annual North County Health Fair, free to the public and a great way to receive information, meet a new health specialist, take advantage of free screenings and learn more about healthy living.  Located at the beautiful Oceanside Civic Center Plaza, the North County Health Fair will run concurrently with the popular Downtown Farmers' Market.  Call Coordinator  (760) 722-1534 ext. 17 for further information.

California Surf Museum Events - If you haven't been to the California Surf Museum lately, you'll want to revisit soon, with new exhibits, book signings, the ever-popular Big Wednesdays Film Series, and the 7th Annual Gala!








KOCT News - KOCT, Oceanside's community television station, produces and facilitates public interest programming for Oceanside and surrounding communities.  KOCT also offers media access for the community.  Check the link above for news on new KOCT offerings, like "Oceanside Talks."






MiraCosta LIFE Program - LIFE (Learning is For Everyone) is organized for the seniors in North County.  LIFE meets most Friday afternoons and offers guest speakers on a wide array of topics, discussion groups, and even occasional field trips.  The August and September meetings feature talks on Computer Scams, Travel to Papua, New Guinea, Immigration, and much more!  Calendar

Sand Art Contest at Oceanside Pier - Sunday, August 31 - Organized by the Oceanside Museum of Art, the theme is "Endangered Marine Animals," and the contest is limited to 50 teams.  Get creative in the sun and sand and submit your form today!  Observers can enjoy the Oceanside Museum of Art's Family Art Day at the Beach with easy and fun sand art projects at the pavillions, just south of the pier.                                                 




Supergirl Pro Surf Contest & Festival - The only televised and the largest women's surfing event in the world returns to Oceanside Pier on August 8-10.  Developed as a celebration of female empowerment, the series features the world's top female athletes competing in surf, as well as a variety of girl-power activities.  Includes a 6-Star ASP sanctioned surf contest - the largest girls-only surf contest in the world and festival on the beach.  The world's top female pro surfers will compete...don't miss it!  Video
