2015 Community Service Award Recipient Announced - Mr. E. Charles Adams, Sr. was chosen as the 2015 City of Oceanside Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Award winner. The Community Service Award is annually given to a resident who exemplifies the ideals and teachings of Dr. King and who has served the community in volunteer activities over a long time period. Mr. Adams has a long history of civic volunteerism and leadership in the Oceanside community. More |

Community Resource Fair for Parents/Caregivers - February 10. The Oceanside Public Library will host a free Community Resource Fair for expecting parents and parents and caregivers of babies and young children, ages 0-5. Families are welcome. The fair will take place on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the Mission Branch Library community room, 3861-B Mission Avenue. More |

Overall Crime Down in Oceanside -The Oceanside Police Department announced that crime was down 9.6% in 2014. Gang-related crime was down 31% in 2014. Dispatch answered 93,423 emergency calls and 270,795 non-emergency calls. The Harbor Unit assisted Federal agencies in the largest seizure of drugs in Southern California maritime history. Remembering Our Fallen Exhibit - February 9-14 at the Veterans Association of North County located at 1617 Mission Avenue in Oceanside. “Remembering Our Fallen” is a war memorial that consists of state exhibits created to remember our country’s Fallen since the Twin Towers fell on September 11, 2001. Unlike most war memorials of brick and mortar, these are designed to travel so that more people can have the opportunity to remember our Fallen. The exhibit includes military and personal photos of Californians who have died from wounds suffered in the war zone. |

Celebration of Life at Libby Lake Park - March 13 from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Please join in an event to remember victims of violence and celebrate the lives of youth and families living in the community. There will be music, games, food and guest speakers. You'll find resource booths on health services, college and job training, after-school activities and more! |

The City's Economic Development Division assists businesses with expansion and relocation to Oceanside by offering site searches, business visits, demographic and statistical information, and assistance with permit processing and business license issuance. Beach Restrooms Project Phase 1 - Construction continues on the first phase of a multi-phase improvement project along the waterfront. The first beach restrooms are under construction which are located along The Strand at Breakwater and Sportfisher. The restrooms on the Oceanside Pier and at Wisconsin Street will start the remodeling process this Spring.
Beach Restroom and Operations Facility Project - The next phase of restroom projects will address the much-needed improvements to beach operations and visitor-serving facilities adjacent to the Junior Seau Amphitheater and Tyson Street Park. This project has just started the conceptual design process. The first community meeting was held January 28. Look for additional community meetings regarding this future project in February and March. Information will be located on the City’s calendar of events, Facebook, Twitter and site-specific signage. |

Say "I Do" at El Corazon - Brides to be, you'll want to check out the El Corazon Senior Center as a venue for unforgetable (not to mention affordable) nuptials in the heart of Oceanside. The dining room accomodates 96 seated guests. Adjacent is a serence courtyard bordered by landscaping and a large outdoor fireplace with additional seating. Explore the Guajome Park Trail! Guajome Park is located in Oceanside and has a little bit of everything for the hiker--and the trail is rated as "Easy." Two ponds attract migratory birds and are home to a variety of fish. The 4.5 miles of trails meander through a diverse representation of habitats including woodlands, chaparral, wetlands and mixed grasslands. The second Saturday of every month features Nature Walk with a Ranger, open to all ages. One camping cabin too! Open 7 days a week from dawn to dusk. 3000 Guajome Lake Road, Oceanside. Iron Man 70.3 Triathlon - March 28 6:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. This race offers the only chance athletes have to swim in the calm, protected Oceanside Harbor. The bike course takes cyclists along the coastline to San Clemente, before dropping down into Camp Pendleton. Here, challenging hills confront athletes before they swing back to the Oceanside Pier. The run portion takes them on a winding journey along the pier, and then out to The Strand, where miles of beaches provide a beautiful vista. Runners then loop back for a grand finish at the ocean's edge and a chute lined with energetic spectators. More |

MiraCosta College to Offer Four-Year Degree - MiraCosta College was among 15 community colleges selected from 112 statewide to offer four-year bachelor's degree programs. MiraCosta will offer a degree in Bio-Manufacturing, which will help fulfill an unmet worksforce need in our region. The pilot program was started to help keep higher education affordable. |

MiraCosta LIFE Program - LIFE is a Lifelong Learning Group organized for the seniors of North County which features fascinating lectures, presentations and even a field trip or two. There are topics to interest all tastes, including the upcoming production of The Drowsy Chaperone, lecture on Michelangelo, and presentation on Music of the British Isles in February and March.
