Oceanside Installs Lightgrid System - As part of its commitment to reduce energy consumption, the City of Oceanside recently installed more than 7,700 LED streetlight fixtures equipped with a GPS-enabled control system. Expected to derive energy and maintenance savings of approximately $600,000 annually, the installation of GE LED fixtures with LightGrid controls positions Oceanside as a leader in connected and energy-saving solutions. |

National Night Out - August 4 - National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live. Together, we are making that happen each day. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement, while bringing back a true sense of community, and provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances. The City of Oceanside will be hosting four separate community events at Crown Heights Resource Center, Joe Balderrama Park, Libby Lake Park and Melba Bishop Park and Recreation Center. Activities range from resource booths and carnival games to crime prevention resources, but all ending with a movie in the park. Refer to link above for details. |

Oceanside International Film Festival - August 9-16 - Established in 2009, the Oceanside International Film Festival is an opportunity for independent filmmakers to have their work screened and judged. It also gives film buffs a jump-start on viewing unique local and international independent films in Southern California. So, walk the red carpet and enjoy a multitude of cinematic genres to suit everyone's taste! |

First Friday Art Walk - August 7 - Join in on the ever-growing First Friday Art Walk on Friday, August 7 downtown. August's Art Walk celebrates its First Anniversary! Stop by the Civic Center Library or the Oceanside Museum of Art for a map and be on your way to a happening evening viewing captivating live performances and visual art in businesses and galleries along the way. Arts and Culture- The Arts are alive in Oceanside, and there's something for every member of the family! You won't want to miss In the Abstract: Mid-Century San Diego Painting and Sculpture at Oceanside Museum of Art. The Oceanside Art Walk is happening August 7 and all are gearing up for the most anticipated Oceanside International Film Festival! Coming treat is playwrite Neil Simon's romantic comedy "Barefoot in the Park" at the Brooks Theatre in September. See above link for details. |

Economic Development News - Oceanside has a dynamic business climate with new restaurants, retail shops, and manufacturing businesses moving into the City. The City's Economic Development Division assists businesses with expansion and relocation to Oceanside by offering site searches, business visits, demographic and statistical information, and assistance with permit processing and business license issuance. The Oceanside Police Department is hosting a Senior Volunteer Patrol Program (SVPP) Academy in September. The academy is one week long and trains volunteers in all aspects of their position as a SVPP member. Senior volunteers assist uniformed police officers in a variety of ways: impounding vehicles, traffic control, assist at DUI checkpoints, conduct vacation checks, and perform elderly welfare checks. Applicants must be 50 years of age, possess a valid California Driver’s License, and pass a background check. Volunteers drive vehicles marked as “volunteer” and frequently do a bit of walking or standing. Those interested are encouraged to apply! Please contact Leo Bates at (760) 435-4763. |

Beach Restrooms Project Phase 1 - Construction continues on the first phase of a multi-phase improvement project along the waterfront. The first beach restrooms which are under construction are located along The Strand at Breakwater and Sportfisher, Oceanside Pier and Wisconsin Street. All project sites are scheduled to be completed by end of August 2015. |

Buena Vista Creek Cleanup - Saturday, September 19 from 9:00 a.m. - noon. Please mark your calendar and join in on the 15th annual cleanup of Buena Vista Creek! Volunteers needed at several different sites. Make new friends while helping protect Oceanside's waterways. Flyer |

Library News - Your public library has fascinating summer events and programs, visit today! The Library will be hosting the annual literary festival, "Write On, Oceanside!" in August. They're also introducing a new program for your young ones: 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. The Library seeks volunteers for its literacy program, Oceanside Reads. Click link above for all the news.

Heritage Ball 2015 - August 15 at San Luis Rey Mission. Friends, family and supporters of this beloved historic landmark will gather together for a night of dinner, dancing and fundraising under the stars at Old Mission San Luis Rey on Saturday, August 15th. The Ball is guaranteed to be an elegant evening to remember. Featuring the talents of Mission’s Chefs, there will be an array of delectable hors d’œuvres and a gourmet three-course dinner. Black tie optional.

In the summer, the County designates Cool Zone sites, air-conditioned settings where seniors and others can gather. The sites encourage people to share air conditioning during the heat of the day, lowering individual usage and helping to conserve energy for the whole community. Residents can use officially sanctioned Cool Zones to escape the heat and rest up before going back outside. In Oceanside, Cool Zones are located at:

86th Annual Labor Day Pier Swim - Swim or spectate, the Labor Day Pier Swim will be held on Monday, September 7 from 8:30 a.m. - noon. The Labor Day Pier Swim first began in 1929 and has continued every year since. Competitors dive into the surf, circle one mile around the pier, ride waves back to the beach and dash to the finish line. Some of the toughest swimmers in the country and Canada gather to compete. This event is a fundraiser for the Oceanside Swim Club , a non-profit organization. |

Noche Mexicana - September 13 from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. The 11th annual Noche Mexicana will be held on the Oceanside Civic Center Plaza. This free event celebrates the cultural heritage of the Latino community, and brings people together to discover and share in rich traditions. It will include traditional music and dance performances, local food vendors, merchandise booths, and special activities for children. |

Oceanside Harbor Days - September 26-27 - This special multi-attraction event is organized by the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce and will include a fishing derby, world famous Tiki Swim, the wonderfully unique "Nail and Sail" competition, over 200 arts and craft exhibits, costumed pirates, military displays and much more! |

Club 55 Senior Fitness Center - Vista Community Clinic invites you to come and workout at Club 55 Senior Fitness Center at 448 Country Club Lane in Oceanside. Club 55 is a fitness center for adults 18 years and older. Membership is low cost and a great deal for the whole year. Membership includes access to a variety of exercise equipment, cardio equipment, free weights, and health education information. MiraCosta LIFE Program - Learning Is For Everyone (LIFE) is a program organized for seniors of North County, but open to all over 18. LIFE meets most Friday afternoons at 1:00 p.m. at the Oceanside campus and offers an incredible selection of guest speakers and topics.
