El Nino Preparedness - According to climatologists, the last two strong El Nino's had record rains in the months of February and March.  Are you prepared?  If your home or business lies in a flood prone area, pick up free sandbags at the City Operations Center Monday - Friday from 9-3 at 4927 Oceanside Boulevard.  Limit 10 per resident while supplies last.  Moody's Recycling at  3210 Oceanside Boulevard also has free sand and bags for Oceanside residents and will sell them pre-filled for $1.50 each. Check link above for Flood Insurance information and other important resources.

Arts and Culture - The Arts are alive in Oceanside! The season is brimming with exciting events like Art Walk,  five exhbitions opening at Oceanside Museum of Art, riveting live theatre at both The Star and The Brooks, inspiring symphonic concerts, and more! Check link for all the details and make it a night to remember in Oceanside.




Martin Luther King Community Service Award Winner Announced  - Edith Jones was chosen as the 2016 City of Oceanside Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Award winner.  Ms. Jones has been a stalwart volunteer for our local non-profit organizations. The Community Service Award is given annually to a resident who exemplifies the ideals and teachings of Dr. King and who has served the community in volunteer activities over a long time period. 





 Coast Highway Pilot Design -  The City Council approved a Traffic Calming Pilot Design for Coast Highway between Oceanside Boulevard and Morse Street, to include restriping Coast Highway to one lane in each direction to allow for wider bike lanes with buffer, and the installation of a mid-block crosswalk with flashing beacons near the entrance to the Loma Alta Creek path.  The work will begin the first week of March.  For questions, please reach City Traffic Engineer David DiPierro at (760) 435-5114.




 Join a Board, Commission or Committee - The City Clerk is seeking your experience and expertise to serve on a City Board or Commission.  There are a wide variety of volunteer options.  Please see link for further information.

Valentine's Week in Oceanside - Visit Oceanside, Oceanside Parks and Recreation and local businesses and attractions have planned a special 10-day celebration just for you, all centered around the theme of love.  From romantic dining specials and sunset harbor cruises to a family-friendly movie night at the Oceanside Pier and a fun run & bike event, you will be feeling the love!  Check link for details and specials.






Coffee with a Cop - February 18 at the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce at 928 N. Coast Highway from 8:00-10:00 a.m. Join your friends, neighbors, business leaders and Police Officers for coffee and conversation. No agenda or speeches, just a chance to ask questions, voice concerns, and get to know your neighborhood officers. These monthly meetings open the door for interactions outside of crisis situations that typically bring law enforcement and community members together. Public Safety Night at the Sunset Farmers' Market - February 4 from 5-8 p.m. Join the Oceanside Police, Fire and Lifeguards at the Sunset Market!  There will be giveaways, vehicle displays and fun for the whole family.  The Sunset Farmers' Market features an eclectic mix of cuisine and hand-crafted goods and is located at the corner of Pier View Way and Tremont Street in downtown Oceanside. 




More downtown parking approved - The City Council approved plans for the addition of 357 public parking spots in a multi-level structure at the future North Beach Promenade at 300 N. Cleveland Street.  The project, by Pelican Properties, will include 52 condominiums and 9,400 square feet of commercial space.  It will also feature a 4,200-square-foot public plaza at the corner of Cleveland Street and Pier View Way.  The North Beach Promenade will sit three blocks north of the 450-space parking garage adjacent to the Oceanside Transit Center. 





First Friday Art WalkFebruary 5 - Join us as we enjoy Oceanside's vibrant art community showcasing live performances, music, poetry, art education, culinary, and pop-up art galleries embedded in local businesses and public spaces.  February's "Love" themed Art Walk is sure to inspire.   Downtown Oceanside comes alive with activities, food, and fun for all ages. Free every first Friday of the month from 5-8 p.m. in downtown Oceanside.




City Council Meeting February 3 at 5:00 p.m. - The public is welcome for the next City Council meeting in the Council Chambers at 300 N. Coast Highway. City Council meetings are also shown live on KOCT on two Wednesdays of each month and replayed throughout the week. Check the agenda and minutes to read about the issues the City Council is addressing each month.  You may now submit your opinion via an online form as well.




Economic Development News - Oceanside has a dynamic business climate with new restaurants, retail shops, and manufacturing businesses moving into the City. The City's Economic Development Division assists businesses with expansion and relocation to Oceanside by offering site searches, business visits, demographic and statistical information, and assistance with permit processing and business license issuance. Free Movies at the Pier - Saturday, February 13 at 6:00 p.m. Parks and Recreation presents “Tangled” & “Sleepless in Seattle” at the Pier Amphitheater.  "Tangled" begins at 6:00 p.m. and "Sleepless in Seattle" begins at 8:00 p.m.  Come early to set up, bring blankets and a picnic dinner!  Spend your Valentine's weekend with friends, family and Parks and Recreation under the night stars.  This is a free, family-friendly event. 







Free Bicycle Safety Classes - The City of Oceanside Parks and Recreation Division offers  free Bicycle Safety Skills Courses each month.  Each course is a two-part class.  There is a classroom session and a road session.  All classes meet at the Oceanside Public Library Community Rooms.  While classes are free, pre-registration is necessary.  Click link above for schedule and  registration.

Green Oceanside news -  Oceanside is committed to waste diversion and recycling.  The City's Zero Waste Plan programs have increased diversion rate from 58% to 71% in less than three years.  Oceanside is now considering a Single-Use Carryout Bag Ordinance.  We need your input.  Check link for dates of community meetings and voice your opinion.

Oceanside Chamber of Commerce Marks 120th Anniversary in 2016 - The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce celebrates its 120th year in 2016, and is the longest running business in the city.  Established in 1896, the Chamber's influence and impact has payed an important role in the promotion, tourism and business development of Oceanside.  




California Surf Museum news - Catch the grand opening of the splashing new exhibit, Going Big: Riding Giants Around the World -- A 21-Gun Salute to the History of Big Wave Surfing.  The exhibit is a celebration of big wave spots, the surfers who challenge them, and the surfboard "guns" they've used.  It's a must see experience for all who are fascinated by the ocean and its power.  Check link above for more news and congratualte the California Surf Museum on their 30 year anniversary! 




KOCT - Your Community Channel - KOCT celebrates more than 32 years of service to the Oceanside community this year.  Read about the trials of archiving aging videotape, coming programming and more! 




MiraCosta LIFE Program - Learning Is For Everyone (LIFE) is a program organized for seniors of North County, but open to all over 18. LIFE meets most Friday afternoons at 1:00 p.m. at the Oceanside campus and offers an incredible selection of guest speakers and topics. Future meeting topics include Vivaldi, Senior Scams, Music and Dance of the Philippines, and A Gold Rush Physician. Please peruse the scheduled topics via the link above and join LIFE on Fridays.
