Improvements include a new boarding platform to serve a ten-car train, a new third rail track to allow an additional train to move through the station when two trains are boarding passengers, a platform extension to the north, new track crossovers and turnouts to enhance rail operations, and updated customer amenities. This new district-wide partnership and commitment helps children learn where their food comes from, is good for the environment, and encourages the importance of buying locally. California Thursdays is a collaboration between the Center for Eco-Literacy and school districts statewide. All OUSD schools are committed to serving healthy, freshly prepared school meals. Every Thursday, that commitment goes one step further by having those fresh meals feature California-grown foods.  During the California Thursdays kick-off event, Palmquist Elementary's "Green Team" led tours of the school's hydroponic greenhouse, Garden Café, and talked about innovative changes to their school lunch program. OUSD board members, local chefs, elected officials and staff all enjoyed the delicious food.
