Shopping local creates and sustains local jobs and invests in entrepreneurship.  'Tis the Season to Shop Local campaign is a joint collaboration between the City of Oceanside, MainStreet Oceanside, Visit Oceanside, and the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce.  The program features shopping passports to win prizes, Merry Makers Fair and more!  Read on:






Economic Development News - Oceanside has a dynamic business climate with new restaurants, retail shops, and manufacturing businesses moving into the City. The City's Economic Development Division assists businesses with expansion and relocation to Oceanside by offering site searches, business visits, demographic and statistical information, and assistance with permit processing and business license issuance. Coast Highway Corridor Study Work is still underway on the Coast Highway Corridor Study. The technical studies for the project are nearly complete.  One additional community meeting is being planned for January 2017. Downtown Oceanside Water and Sewer Replacement Project - Work has begun to replace important water and sewer lines, improve drinking water deliveries and enhance wastewater flow to ensure a safe, reliable and efficient wastewater distribution system.  Work will take place Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. No equipment to operate prior to 8:00 a.m. No work will occur on Thursdays near the Farmers' Market area.  The project is scheduled to be complete in fall of 2017 and includes replacing water meters, hydrants, customer water service connections, 1.8 miles of water lines and 2.1 miles of sewer lines.  To minimize impacts to the surrounding properties, temporary pipelines and pumps will be in place to allow for normal water delivery and sewer collection throughout the course of construction.  For more information, please visit

Oceanside Transit Center Improvement Project -SANDAG's construction is more than halfway complete on the expansion of the Oceanside Transit Center. Crews have completed the extension of Platform 1; installed a new rail crossover and a turnout between Wisconsin Avenue and Oceanside Boulevard to enhance rail operations; added facilities in preparation for new lighting and drainage; updated signaling equipment; replaced old, wooden rail ties with modern concrete ties; and started construction on the new platform and third track.  As crews continue to make progress, regular night work is expected throughout the rest of the year. Over the next few months, crews will be completing the installation of a second rail crossover and other track, utility, and signaling work between Michigan Avenue and Oceanside Boulevard. Construction from Wisconsin Avenue to Oceanside Boulevard is anticipated to finish in January, while the work taking place between Michigan Avenue and Wisconsin Avenue will extend into spring 2017. Starting in spring 2017, the majority of construction work will be focused at the station, where crews will be building a new train platform and modernizing station amenities. Arts and Culture - The Arts are alive in Oceanside! The winter season is brimming with exciting events like MOJO Jazz band at MiraCosta College, the Oceanside Art Walk, Miracle on 34th Street--a Live Radio Show at the Brooks Theatre and a variety of great exhibitions at the world-class Oceanside Museum of Art. City Council Meetings - Regular meetings December 7 and December 21 at 5:00 p.m.  The swearing in ceremony for Mayor, Councilmembers and City Clerk will be held on Wednesday, December 14 at 11:30 a.m. in the City Council Chambers.  The public is welcome for all City Council meetings at 300 N. Coast Highway. Regular City Council meetings are also shown live on KOCT on two Wednesdays of each month and replayed throughout the week. Oceanside ranked 99/100 by Human Rights CampaignThe Human Rights Campaign (HRC) conducts a Municipality Equality Index (MEI) annually to evaluate municipal laws and policies affecting the LGBTQ community. The City of Oceanside earned a 99 out of 100 in the study.  The average of California cities surveyed was 73 and the national average was 55.  Oceanside is proud to be an "all star" in the 2016 MEI and will continue working to be inclusive for all citizens.





El Corazon Aquatics Center - The City Council authorized the planning and design of an Aquatics Center at El Corazon. On November 4, 2015, the Council approved a Professional Services Agreement for the conceptual design and studies needed. On May 5, 2016, conceptual design and environmental studies were submitted to the Planning Department to start the approval process. Through the fall of 2016, various commissions and committees approved the entitlement of the Aquatrics Center with the City Council scheduled to take action on December 7, 2016. Next steps for the project will involve the preparation of the final design and engineering plans, which are anticipated to take 6 months to complete.   Construction could start as early as fall of 2017. This world-class aquatics center will provide competition-level amenities to serve Oceanside residents, school districts and host regional meets. In addition to competitive amenities, the aquatics center will accommodate recreational features for all. Main components will include a 56-meter competition pool, diving boards, instructional pool, splash pad, administrative offices, meeting rooms, large multi-purpose hall, locker rooms and outdoor recreational and viewing areas. The Aquatics Center will add to the active synergy already taking place within El Corazon with the SoCal Sport Complex, El Corazon Senior Center, and future residential and commercial development. Parks and Recreation News - Parks and Recreation Winter sports leagues and new classes are rolling out! Classes begin the week of January 9 and registration begins December 12.  Offerings include new T-Ball classes, as well as Soul Line Dancing, Zumba and Storybook Musical Theater and Dance!  See link for registration information and fun, family-friendly events and volunteer opportunities to enjoy.

Neighborhood Services News

Crown Heights Ladies Night Program - Neighborhood Services Department hosts the second annual Ladies Night Banquet December 28.  The Ladies Night program takes place once per month with educational themes that aim to empower women to set goals and persevere.  The banquet will be held at the Crown Heights Resource Center.  For more information, please call (760) 435-3339.


Spreading Holiday Cheer One Book at a Time - Through donations from employee groups, businesses and other organizations, Oceanside's Neighborhood Services Department led a holiday book drive for community children.  They will be presenting over 250 new books to children in City-sponsored and/or operated programs in Oceanside on December 14.

Holiday Street Sweeping Schedule - There will be no street sweeping or enforcement on Christmas Day, New Year's Day or Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. To see the complete list of 2016 and 2017 street sweeping holidays, click here. All other days will continue with regular street sweeping and enforcement.







Oceanside Football and Basketball on KOCT - Oceanside Unified School District (OUSD) and KOCT have partnered to air high school sports on television.  Fans unable to make the game recently enjoyed the varsity football game between hometown rivals Oceanside High School and El Camino High School on November 4, which can be viewed via Video on Demand at KOCT. Holiday Tree Lighting December 1 Join the fun as we light the holiday tree at the Regal Cinema Plaza at 401 Mission Avenue in downtown Oceanside on Thursday, December 1 at 6:00 p.m.  There will be a special visit from Santa Claus,and milk and cookies for the kids. The event will run adjacent to the Sunset Market, so shop local and pick up some hand-crafted goodies for loved ones on your list. 






Parade of Lights December 10 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. - This captivating annual event held at the Oceanside Harbor delights people of all ages as boats decorated brightly in holiday swag parade across the Harbor.  This dazzling Oceanside tradition hosted by the Oceanside Yacht Club is a twinkling event not to be missed!
