Economic Development News - Oceanside has a dynamic business climate with new restaurants, retail shops, and manufacturing businesses moving into the City. The City's Economic Development Division assists businesses with expansion and relocation to Oceanside by offering site searches, business visits, demographic and statistical information, and assistance with permit processing and business license issuance. Oceanside Transit Center Improvement Project- SANDAG's construction crews have installed a new signal, new canopy shelters, portions of a switch track, a new crossover, and a new boarding platform. There will be intermittant weekend closures and the project is expected to be complete in late 2017.

Arts and Culture - The Arts are alive in Oceanside! The spring season holds an incredible array of art events such as Days of Art April 22-23, exciting live theatre like Picnic at the Brooks Theatre and Lion King, Jr. at the Star Theatre. The world-class Oceanside Museum of Art has not-to-be-missed exhibitions and events galore. MiraCosta College has a free International Film Series, too! Check link for details and make it a night to remember in Oceanside.

City Council Meetings - The public is welcome for all City Council meetings at 300 N. Coast Highway. The next meeting dates are April 5 and April 19. Regular City Council meetings are also shown live on KOCT on two Wednesdays of each month and replayed throughout the week. Innovate 78 - Innovate 78 is the collaborative effort of five cities (Oceanside, Carlsbad, Vista, San Marcos, and Escondido) to attract new business to the 78 corridor and promote economic development and job growth in the North County San Diego region. Beach sand replenishment- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has contracted with Manson Construction to begin its annual dredging of the Oceanside Harbor for a safe navigational route. They are anticipated to begin mid-April with an estimated completion date of May 26, 2017. The sand dredged will be deposited on City beaches. More

General Plan Update - After several months of public outreach and technical assessment, components of the City’s General Plan Update are now moving into the drafting phase. City staff has begun outlining both the Economic Development Element and the Energy and Climate Action Element, identifying goals, objectives, and policies that will guide the City’s decision-makers in their efforts to simultaneously grow the local economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. You are encouraged to visit the GPU webpage (www.oceansidegpu.com) periodically for more information on an upcoming scoping meeting and public workshops.

Libby Lake Community Resource Fair May 20 - Please join in at this community event May 20 between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. which will include a variety of resource booths to learn about valuable local services. IronMan 70.3 Triathlon returns April 1 - Athletes from all over the world have traveled to Oceanside to take on this incredible athletic challenge of a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run. Everyone is invited to cheer on the athletes and celebrate their achievements. There will be an IronKIDS Fun Run on Friday, March 31 at 5:00 p.m. on The Strand as well. Improvements to North County Paratransit Service- The North County Transit District announced coming improvements to its LIFT paratransit program. In addition to call-in reservations, customers will be able to book, confirm or cancel trips 24 hours a day through an automated phone and online system. A new payment processor will be implemented to prepay for trips via debit/credit cards and there will be new eligibility procedures. To find out more, please attend a community outreach event on April 12 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Oceanside Public Library - Mission Branch at 3861 Mission Avenue.

California Surf Museum news - New exhibits grace the halls of the CSM, including the upcoming exhibit: Surfers and the Vietnam War: The Healing Power of Surfing, which will open on Memorial Day. This exhibit will draw upon the book and movie Between the Lines, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Paddleout held at the Pier in 2007. Support one of Oceanside's most unique museums, which serves as an international repository and resource center on the lifestyle sport of surfing through capturing, preserving, and chronicling its art, culture and heritage.

MiraCosta College L.I.F.E. program - L.I.F.E. (Learning is For Everyone) is organized for the seniors of North County, but is open to all. LIFE meets on most Friday afternoons from 1:00-3:30 p.m. They offer guest speakers and discussion groups on the most fascinating topics. Among the Spring 2017 topics are Billie Holiday, Alzheimers, the Electoral College, John Glenn, Golden Eagles, American Indian politics and so much more!
