Potential Sales Tax Measure - Our City's first priority is protecting the safety of our citizens and maintaining a quality of life we all value in our community. To provide stable, local funding to meet these needs, the City of Oceanside is considering placing a one-half cent sales tax measure on the November 2018 ballot. Coming soon!  Development Service to offer Electronic Plan SubmittalsElectronic Plan Review will soon be available for all building permits. Customers will be able to submit building permit applications and plans electronically.  This new enhancement, anticipated to roll out in May,  will allow the public the flexibility of submitting plans electronically, paying permit fees online, scheduling inspections online as well as having their permits reviewed and approved electronically with ease. Plans will be reviewed by Building, Planning, Engineering and Water departments concurrently. Providing customers with this service saves time, money and a trip to City Hall.  This enhancement will also improve turnaround times by moving traditional counter services to the web.

Earth Festival  April 14 - Grab your family and friends for North County's largest Earth Day Celebration in downtown Oceanside!  Earth Festival is a free event with fun and exciting attractions for everyone, including live music from local bands.  The festival there will feature free bike valet, a Vintage Market which will showcase local businesses that offer unique goods, re-styled vintage clothing, and up-cycled materials, a Home Improvement Zone, a Kids-Eco Zone where children will be inspired by our local environment to save water, recycle right, and enjoy the great outdoors, a DIY Compost Bin Workshop, and more!  Learn more about Earth Festival and other Earth Month events here.






Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update - The City of Oceanside is engaging the community in order to update its Master Plan of Parks and Recreation (1996). This process will provide guidance to the City Council, Planning Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission and City staff as to the priorities for the City's current park system. The goal is to ensure that the park system is meeting as many needs of Oceanside residents in the best way possible.  We'd like your help in determining your values and needs, and in contributing to the success of this project.  Please join us for Public Workshop #3 on May 15 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Country Club Senior Center to provide your comments.

Grant to fund Loma Alta Habitat Improvement Project - Throughout 2018, the City of Oceanside will be conducting a comprehensive habitat improvement and coastal access planning project for the existing estuarine habitat near the coast. This project will use recently acquired State Proposition 1 grant funds from the California Coastal Conservancy. City staff has held one community outreach meeting, and is planning to organize more community workshops throughout the planning process. Over the last 10 years, the City has worked to acquire additional property on the northern edge of the Slough, west of Coast Highway, to allow for the future expansion of wetland  habitat and improvements to pedestrian coastal access.







Economic Development News - Oceanside has a dynamic business climate with new restaurants, retail shops, and manufacturing businesses moving into the City. The City's Economic Development Division assists businesses with expansion and relocation to Oceanside by offering site searches, business visits, demographic and statistical information, and assistance with permit processing and business license issuance. City Council Meetings - The public is welcome for all City Council meetings at 300 N. Coast Highway. The next meeting dates are April 11 and April 25. Regular City Council meetings are also shown live on KOCT on two Wednesdays of each month and replayed throughout the week. Sign up with AlertSanDiego  - The County of San Diego has a regional notification system that sends telephone alerts to residents and businesses within San Diego County impacted by an emergency or disaster.  The system is already able to contact landline telephones whether listed or unlisted.  Register your cell phone and email address to get notifications through those channels also.  Now accessible in American Sign Language, too.  Sign up today, be prepared!





Coffee with a Cop - Join the Oceanside Police Department on April 18 from 8:00-10:00 a.m. at Cynthia's Artistic Expressions, located at 1906 Oceanside BoulevardNo agenda or speeches, just a chance to ask questions, voice concerns, and get to know the Officers in your neighborhood. Arts and Culture - The Arts are alive in Oceanside!  The spring season holds a wide array of colorful art events, like Days of Art April 14 & 15, the annual Oceanside Jazz Festival at MiraCosta College, and collaborative exhibitions at the Oceanside Museum of Art for the community-wide "Big Read."  Both the Star Theatre and the Brooks Theatre will feature two new live  shows in May.  Check link for details!





First Friday Art Walk - Oceanside Friends of the Arts will host the first Friday Art Walk again on April 6 from 5-9 p.m. on Mission Avenue, Artist Alley, Pier View Way and Coast Highway in downtown Oceanside.  You'll enjoy paintings, sculpture, photography and more!  Special this month:  Magician in Artist Alley.

California Surf Museum - Oceanside's California Surf Museum presents the grand opening of their newest exhibit celebrating some of the most iconic boards and surfers of pipeline on April 7 from 6-9 p.m., "Billibong Salute to Pipeline."  Admission is free, but space is limited, so RSVP to 760-721-6876.  Consider becoming a member. Memberships not only help the museum continue operating on a daily basis, but also makes possible the continuing series of fascinating new exhibits, film premieres, book signings, educational lectures, and music events.

Oceanside Business ExpoThe Oceanside Business Expo provides a great opportunity for local business owners to make new connections from around the region, build business relationships, form strategic partnerships, and grow business by reaching new consumer and business audiences.  The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Oceanside Business Expo at the QLN Conference Center on April 19 from 2-6 p.m. With over 100 exhibitors, the Oceanside Business Expo will feature business sponsors and exhibitors.  Admission is free, but registration online is requested.

The Freeway Service Patrol, powered by SANDAG and in partnership with Caltrans and the CHP, travels select freeways throughout the San Diego region to provide free roadside assistance and help keep traffic flowing during peak traffic times. Whether you have a flat tire, an overheated engine, or run out of gas, they’ll get you moving or tow your car off the freeway to a safe, pre-determined location at no cost. When the unexpected happens, just call 511 and say “Roadside Assistance.”  Visit to view the service area map and hours of operation.






Oceanside Unified School District news  - Oceanside Unified School District Deputy Superintendent Reginald Thompkins was named the Curriculum and Instruction Administrator of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators Region 18. Thompkins will receive his award at the annual Honoring Our Own dinner on April 27.   More

Ironman 70.3 returns to Oceanside - The popular Ironman Triathlon returns to Oceanside April 7 with athletes from around the world competing in one of the most difficult one-day sporting events you can find. Come cheer on participants in their swim, run and bike course which culminates at the finish line near the Junior Seau Beach Amphitheater.  Good luck to all competitors!
