Fire Department Wins Exceptional Service Award - The Oceanside Fire Department was the sole department in the county to be awarded the Gold-level Mission Lifeline Award for exceptional service and care for those suffering heart attacks.   The award is given by the American Heart Association as a measure of excellence. The department urges all to learn CPR, so care can begin even before firefighter paramedics arrive.  






First Friday Art WalkOctober 2 - Join us as we enjoy Oceanside's vibrant art community showcasing live performances, music, poetry, art education, culinary, and pop-up art galleries embedded in local businesses and public spaces.  Downtown Oceanside comes alive with art, performances, music, poetry, activities, food, and fun for all ages.  Free every first Friday of the month from 6-9 p.m. in downtown Oceanside.   Video





City Council Meeting October 7 -  The public is welcome for the next City Council meeting on Wednesday, October 7 in the Council Chambers at 300 N. Coast Highway.  City Council Meetings are also shown live on KOCT on two Wednesdays of each month and replayed throughout the week.  Agenda and minutes





Economic Development News - Oceanside has a dynamic business climate with new restaurants, retail shops, and manufacturing businesses moving into the City. The City's Economic Development Division assists businesses with expansion and relocation to Oceanside by offering site searches, business visits, demographic and statistical information, and assistance with permit processing and business license issuance. Arts and Culture - The Arts are alive in Oceanside!  This Fall is brimming with exciting events like Oceanside Museum of Art's "Art After Dark," Boeing Boeing play at the Brooks Theatre, Noises Off play at the Star Theatre, Art Walk, foreign film, and more!  Check link for all the details and make it a night to remember.





Fire Department Open House  - October 24 - Join in the fun at Fire Station 7 (3350 Mission Avenue) from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  Bring the whole family down to meet ours!  There will be equipment demonstrations, a helicopter flyby, arts & crafts for kids, photos with fire gear and more. 






Bike Rodeos -  A grant from SANDAG allowed the City's Transportation Division to hold recent Bike Rodeos, with more to come. The goal of the Bike Rodeo is to provide an opportunity for children to learn, practice, and demonstrate their bicycle handling skills in a fun, noncompetitive atmosphere. The recent Bike Rodeo at Temple Heights Elementary was attended by 178 students. The rodeos will be held about once per month through the end of the school year.  Oceanside's Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee would love your volunteer help.  Please call (760) 435-5095 or email to assist or learn more.




Join the CERT Academy  - The CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Academy educates people on disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact Oceanside, and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as  light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.  Using the training learned in the classrooms and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional frst responders are not immediately available to help. 





Flood Preparedness and Prevention - With winter coming and the possibilty of of an El Nino, it's important to remember that Oceanside is exposed to riverine and coastal flooding.  Find out if your property lies in a flood zone, how you can protect your home or business, flood safety and City services in this regard.

Coffee with a Cop - October 20 - 8:00-10:00 a.m.- Join your friends, neighbors and Police Officers for coffee and conversation on Tuesday, October 20 at IHOP Restaurant at 1806 Oceanside Boulevard.  No agenda or speeches, just a chance to ask questions, voice concerns, and get to know your neighborhood officers.  These monthly meetings open the door for interactions outisde of crisis situations that typically bring law enforcement and community members together. For questions, please call (760) 435-4543. 





Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill - October 15 - Everyone, everywhere, should know how to protect themselves in an earthquake. Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills are an annual opportunity for people in homes, schools, and organizations to practice what to do during earthquakes, and to improve preparedness. Check link above to plan your drill and get prepared.  Drop, Cover, and Hold On!

Mission Avenue Improvement Project Wins Awards - The City of Oceanside was presented the 2015 Innovative Transportation Solutions Transit & Roadway Projects Award from the Women in Transportation Seminar  for the Mission Avenue Complete Streets.  This is the fourth award the City has received for the Mission Avenue Project.  The project included widened sidewalks, new landscaping and irrigation, decorative streetlights, street furniture, bike sharrows, and reverse-angle parking. 





Firefighter for a Day - October 23 - These events, held quarterly with the Oceanside Fire Department (OFD), pair local military-in-transition with business executives for a day of hands-on training at OFD.  The partnerships create personal connections that enable military men and women to enter the civilian workforce as stronger decision makers and efficient problem solvers. This experience is also designed to help Veterans grow their professional network and help them find meaningful employment. The executives who participate get a unique networking and recruitment opportunity and a great experience.

Green Oceanside shares ways to have a zero-waste Halloween this year.   Check link on how to save money and reduce waste while creating "EEK-O friendly" costumes and decorations.  The City of Oceanside's is commited to a recycling rate goal of  75%-90% by 2020.                                       





New Bike Station for Commuters - 30 free one-year memberships are available.   The City of Oceanside received a grant from SANDAG to establish a bike parking facility next to the NCTD terminal in Oceanside.  The  secured bike parking structure  holds 26 bikes and is now ready for commuters to use.  Entry is gained via a fob that opens the door and activates a video for entries and exits.  Requests for free membership should be addressed to: City of Oceanside Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator, 300 North Coast Hwy Oceanside, CA 92054 or phone (760) 435-5095.           




County Offers Free Sandbags - Forecasts are projecting the possibility of a strong El Nino season this winter. County Office of Emergency Services are encouraging residents to look around their properties near hillsides with little or dead vegetation that could erode, and to look for ways to keep soil in place, especially on slopes. Residents can use mulch, terrace their slopes and plant a variety of groundcovers and shrubs to prevent erosion.  Find more information, including erosion control, on the ReadySanDiego website and on the Flooding Preparedness Facts and Resources webpage.





New Classes at Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA)- Peruse the list of art class offerings at the world-class Oceanside Museum of Art!  There's something for everyone from Paint!  Wine!  Play!  for adults to Recycle Me Mobiles for creative kids. Free Family Art Day is October 18 and November 15, a great opportunity to explore the museum and get creative with design.  OMA

Oceanside Senior Expo - October 8 - The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce will hold the Senior Expo event at Civic Center Plaza.  The Senior Expo highlights services and products available to the community.  Admission is free and runs adjacent to the the Thursday Farmers Market in downtown Oceanside.  Free parking is available in the Civic Center Parking garage.





Pride by the Beach - October 10 from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.  Each year the Pride by the Beach event funds the annual GSA (Gay/Straight Alliance) Awards. These awards go directly to North County Gay/Straight Alliance clubs in the middle and high schools. These clubs promote respect for diversity in the schools.  Pride by the Beach  celebrates the diversity in our community.  The event features music, entertainment and vendors and will be held at Civic Center Plaza at 300 N. Coast Highway. 




Behind the Scenes Tour of Old Mission San Luis Rey Most Saturdays at 1 p.m., join MiraCosta College History Professor Brad Byrom for an interesting behind the scenes look designed to inform and entertain.  The tour is about an hour, and allows participants into areas not normally open to the public, such as the private rose gardens and pepper tree.  You'll learn interesting tidbits on the Historic Church, cemetary and more.  Call to confirm/register:  760-757-3651.





World Jr. Surfing Championships - October 11 -18 - The best young surfers from around the world will be competing in Oceanside on the south side of the pier.  There will be a Parade of Nations and Opening Ceremony on Sunday, October 11 and Finals will occur Sunday, October 18.  Come and cheer on these competitors from around the globe from a perfect perch on the pier!





Bike the Coast-Taste the Coast - October 10 - Get your group together for October 10 and check out the fun from start to finish at Bike the Coast: Start at the Oceanside Pier with wave countdowns by the Miss Oceanside court. Ride the beautiful coastline with family and friends for 7, 15, 25, 50 or 100 miles. Finish with food, drink, music, fun and fitness expo vendors on the beach at the Oceanside Pier and Junior Seau Ampitheater.  Expo is open to all from10 a.m - 5 p.m.

October is Rideshare Month - Participate in the Rideshare 2015 Challenge, hosted by the SANDAG iCommute program. Leave your solo drive behind and get there together with a carpool, vanpool, transit, bike, or walk this month. See how ridesharing can improve your commute! Win weekly prizes. Learn how to get a vanpool subsidy of up to $400 per month. 





The Haunted Market -  The weekly Sunset Farmers Market in downtown Oceanside transforms into a "Haunted Market" on October 29 from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m.  Residents and visitors will gather  to enjoy the varied gourmet food offerings, the eclectic merchandise, and the live entertainment.  This family-friendly event also features a lively kid's zone, a spooky "Evil Laugh" contest, Halloween music and costume contest.  Trick or treats for the kids!





Oceanside Music Festival- November 8 -10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.   The 14th annual Oceanside Music Festival, called Colors of Music, offers concerts in a variety of genres, showcasing both student and professional musicians from throughout the region.  The free event, sponsored by the Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation,  will be held at the corner of Pier View Way and Coast Highway, free parking in the Civic Center garage. 





Dia de los Muertos - October 25 - Mission San Luis Rey Free admission, parking $5 per car and free shuttle buses.  The Mexican Day of the Dead is a festive and celebrative time. It's a holiday with a complex history and fusion of old traditions. The event celebrates the memories of loved ones who passed away, through preparing ofrendas, art, music, cooking, activities with family, fun times and lessons learned. It's a day that's colorful, interesting, and not to be missed!




KOCT - Your Community Channel - KOCT shares news about technology upgrades, new grants and programming, and how your favorite non-profit can become guests on the Oceanside Spectrum show.





MiraCosta LIFE Program - Learning Is For Everyone (LIFE) is a program organized for seniors of North County, but open to all over 18. LIFE meets most Friday afternoons at 1:00 p.m. at the Oceanside campus and offers an incredible selection of guest speakers and topics.  Future meeting topics include California Impressionism, Gandhi, Hubble Telescopes, Monarch Butterflies, and so much more.
